Recital Path

All students learn at different tempos but the following expectations are general guidelines of what will be expected of all students over the next few years of practice and presentation. Please see me to request modified expectations.

It’s important to remember that piano lessons teach more than just music and notes.  Life skills like presentation, confidence, public speaking, etc, are all valuable skills acquired on this path.

Year 1: Recital Path

Fall Recital
- in addition to your 1st recital expectations, also:
- memorize all three recital pieces
- introduce each song before playing them

Spring Recital
- master 3 pieces to play
- introduce yourself and your family
- thank the audience for listening


Year 2: Recital Path

Fall Recital
- in addition to your 1st recital expectations, also:
- you may play only two songs, depending on length
- exhibit confidence while playing and speaking

Spring Recital
- in addition to your 1st Year recital expectations, also:
- maintain eye contact with audience; speak clearly
- share why you selected each piece


Year 3: Recital Path

Fall Recital
- in addition to your 1st recital expectations, also:
- you may play more original compositions
- Share your 2-3 min “Composer Spotlight” assignment

Spring Recital
- in addition to your 1st Year recital expectations, also:
- play one original composition
- Read your 2-3 min “Music History” assignment


Year 4 and Beyond
